The Test Mule of the Next generation Mahindra Thar has been again spotted testing. This time around, the test car was spotted testing outside Chennai. As revealed by a recent set of spy images, it sports all new body panels, new front and rear bumper and a new soft top. The car looks wider thanks to prominent wheel arches.
On the inside, Thar relates to the outgoing model with functional interior and the model looks quite close to production ready.
Instrument cluster looks new with two large dials but much less attractive to eyes or we can say way too simplistic. The Instrument Cluster has a decent sized multi-info display at center. Steering wheel is taken from TUV 300 and same goes to fit and finish of buttons and panels inside. Thar is famous for the real time relationship between man and machine with no interference of driver assist aids. So, this goes true for this new model also. Pictures show that the four-wheel-drive and low-range selector is still operated manually.
Seats seems to be nicely bolstered and as it is a test mule, the insides are wired with multiple microphones, which indicates the new Thar could be much more silent and refined on the move. Outgoing model can take any terrain but is also shod down for poor riding quality and cabin noises.
Other than this, the next gen Thar will comply fully to crash test norms and will get at least a driver side airbag, a front passenger airbag may be, speed warning system, ABS and rear parking sensors. It is based on newer platforms derived from new Mahindra SUVs like TUV300 and Scorpio and will feature all-new, BS-VI-compliant, 2.0-litre diesel engine that is likely to churn out 140hp. The Launch is expected somewhere in next year.
