Bangalore based electric scooter manufacturer – Ather Energy, has announced that the model named 450 has received FAME II certification. As a result of this, the subsidy has increased to INR 27,000 and the on-road price in Bengaluru has reduced by INR 5,000, leaving the price tag at INR 1.23 Lakhs.
For now, Ather is present in Bangalore only – dealing with huge demand and sold out till September 2019. With company managing 30,000 – 35,000 units per annum from current manufacturing facility, it aims to foray in 6 major cities by the end of this year including Chennai and Pune. Side-by-side, it is out for an eye of a good location to set up a larger manufacturing facility where production capacity can be around 5 – 10 Lakhs unit.
The entry level Ather 340 is powered by a BLDC with a peak power of 4.4 kW (nominal power of 2.8 kW) and 20 Nm of torque. The scooter offers a top speed of 70 kmph and a max range of 60 km (in Eco mode). However, it hasn’t received the certification because the company has not applied for it. Major focus being the Ather 450 – range-topping model which looks identical to the 340 but packs a 5.4 kW (nominal power of 3.3 kW) motor which is good for a top-speed of 80 kmph. Range is claimed to be 75 km.
