The details regarding the much anticipated Yamaha MT-15 naked street bike has been leaked online, courtesy IndianAutosBlog. As per the leaked document, the upcoming Yamaha MT-15 will be powered by the R15’s 155 cc engine
According to the ‘Type Approval Certificate’, registered with the CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules), the India-spec Yamaha MT-15 will be powered by a BS-IV compliant 155.1, SOHC, liquid-cooled, 4-valve motor that features VVA (variable valve actuation) and produces 19.05 hp (14.2 kW) of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. The Engine will be mated to a six-speed gearbox with standard slipper clutch. The upcoming Yamaha MT-15 will come with ABS as standard. This is ideal considering the new safety norms that mandates ABS for all bikes from 125 cc and above, kicks in from April 2019.
Compared to the R15, the India-spec Yamaha MT-15 is longer at 2020 mm, wider at 800 mm and gets a longer wheelbase of 1335 mm. however; the MT-15 is shorter than the R15 at 1070 mm. The Document also mentions the bike’s GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) is 288 kg.
