The Skoda Rapid sedan is the automaker’s entry-level model in India. The Sedan has hit a new production milestone with over one lakh units churned out.
Skoda Auto India rolled out the 100,000th Rapid at its Chakan facility, near Pune, with the special version being the top-of-the-line Monte Carlo edition. The celebratory flash red vehicle dons the Monte Carlo badge that pays homage to ŠKODA AUTO Motorsport Heritage and Rallye Monte Carlo.
The marque was previously used in the 1930s for the RAPID (Type 901) and in the 1980s for the rear engine RAPID Coupé. In November 2011, ŠKODA AUTO resurrected the RAPID nameplate for the subcontinent. The compact sedan was developed exclusively for the local market by ŠKODA AUTO India, a subsidiary of the Czech automobile manufacturer ŠKODA AUTO.
The Skoda Rapid is available with a 1.6-litre petrol along with the 1.5-litre diesel also available as an option. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual as well as a 6-speed torque convertor automatic or a 7-speed DSG. The sedan competes against a number of offerings including the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the likes.
Mr. Zac Hollis, Director – Sales, Service and Marketing, ŠKODA AUTO India said “The RAPID continues to offer a compelling combination of the brand’s emotive design, exquisite interiors, leading safety as well as intelligent connectivity features. The production milestone is a testament to its strong equity among discerning customers in a dynamically evolving automotive market like India. With this accomplishment, we commit a stronger product portfolio and enhanced ownership experience – ascertaining, PEACE OF MIND comes standard with a ŠKODA.”
